Art 3 Exam
SKETCH AND GROW
For sketch and grow, I really wanted to create a realistic portrait. This is the one area of art where I really want to excel in and improve my skills. I am so happy with how this piece turned out of Wentworth Miller! I think it is my favorite piece next to my Malik Monk prismacolor portrait! I can't wait to make more portraits!
NO
This is a bittersweet piece for me. The assignment was to create something with a technique and style that we are not familiar with. I have never seriously done pointillism so I really wanted to give it a try!! The original features of my dog I loved. Then I decided to put some doodle around all of the dot work and hated it so I cut it out and put it on red paper! It could've been more thought out and planned, but it could've been worse.
YES
This portrait makes me cringe when I see it. I decided to do a portrait of Harry Styles because I do love him and portraits. I think the piece as a man is decent, but as Harry Styles, I missed the mark. I did learn better techniques for future portraits though. I also learned that staying up till 12 AM to eagerly finish a portrait is not always the best plan. I deleted my in process photos because I didn't want to look at them anymore 🤷🏼♀️
SKETCH AND GROW / YES
I am SOOOOO obsessed with how this turned out! I'm really proud of this portrait of Ariana Grande! It's bigger than what I'm used to doing I think and the hair was a big task that I think I succeeded in!
REFLECTION 💪🏼
I am most proud of my Malik Monk prismacolor portrait. I had never successfully drawn a black man with colored pencils and I think I did with this piece! He is someone I love a lot and I think I portrayed that with this piece. It makes me happy to look at because all the hard work and research payed off! This could've ended really bad but I made it into a piece I'm proud of.
For me, the most challenging lesson was painting. It's not that acrylic painting is insanely difficult, it's just difficult to create something with a medium you're not passionate about! I learned how to sit down and paint a more detailed painting. I also learned how to choose a more simpler composition and what to leave in or add from the reference image. Although I didn't do an oil painting, I did learn the basics to do so.
Art 3 was my favorite class I've had this year! Every project I was eager to work on because I feel like I've grown so much in this class! I'm leaving with a comfortable understanding of everything. I've never been so proud of the art I've created. I liked the freedom we had for every project we created. Nothing was set in stone. There isn't much I'd change about art 3... maybe just more peanut butter fudge. I would ideally leave out painting because it's not my favorite medium, but for others, you should keep it in... I'm just happy I never had to create anything with clay!
Painting
1) I learned how to create texture with a palette knife. I learned how to do little fur details with a one haired brush. I also learned key tools like how to clean your brushes correctly when you are done painting.
2) I found an image of my dog and drew it onto a canvas. I didn't do too much to prepare for this, I just started immediately. I like how I can tell that it is my dog and it takes me back to the moment I was hanging out with him.

Figure Project
1) In this project, I learned how to create the skin tone of a man of color, Malik Monk. This skill was beneficial to me because I wanted to learn to create an accurate representation of darker skintone and complexions. The base of this portrait was learning how to create Malik's skin tone so that is how I applied it to my project.
2) I did 2 sketches of Malik and then transferred the final sketch onto my final piece. I also looked on Pinterest for other artworks of men of color. I love how this piece turned out. I think it looks a lot like him, and my mom is a big Kentucky fan and she knew it was him too. I think this piece was successful.

Prisma Texture
1. I used fur as my main texture in my piece. I used a lot of little lines to build up the texture. I also used multiple colors to add more value to the piece. I used a lot of layering to blend the colors. I used a blending stick and a white prismacolor to blend. I also used an exacto knife to go over the fur to make the fur more realistic.
2. I learned a lot with this project. I really wanted to be able to draw animals better with prismacolors. Although it might. It look exactly like my cat, I think it's close enough! I'm really proud of this project. I learned how to combine colors to make the right pattern in the fur. I succeeded in making the white portions of the fur still look like fur. I really enjoyed working with an exacto knife to create the fur texture.

Trite Drawing
1. The trite sumbol I used was the stereotypical tongue sticking out. People often stick their tongue out for photos or to be silly. My composition is me sticking my tongue out but having a tongue depressor placed on my tongue like at the doctors! My 3 sketches involved a lollipop, tongue depressor, and the stereotypical tongue sticking out.
2. I'm happy with the composition I chose because it made me focus on the details in the mouth and skin. I didn't have to worry about additional details like the eyes or anything else. I like how the composition helped me branch out by coloring skin and hair. This was my first real project working with orismacolors with the hair and skin. I'm glad I chose prismacolors because I love the medium and I wanted to try doing a colored portrait because I like those more than black and gray!
